You’re a graphic designer. Or kind of. You want to famous, somehow healthier than now. You probably try to integrate environmental care into your professional life. This is for you: Clean Design 2006 contest.
Yes, it’s all about postcards. But who cares about these damn postcards? Let’s figure the numbers. According to Greeting Card Association, 90% of all US households buy greetings cards, that makes 7 billion cards each year. Plus 2 billions in the UK. Crazy, isn’t it?
Print responsibly. The runner of this postcards contest, the NJ-based Printing Responsibly company “helps businesses stay within budget, preserves design and communication goals, and still prints responsibly,” as recorded on their weblog.
They come to the idea of this contest for one reason: “We believe that a significant first step in cutting print waste is to actually conceptualize and design printed media in an uncluttered direct way, so that the all important message is clear and concise upon first glance, therefore requiring less printing over time in order to get the message across more effectively.” Enough to challenge you?
1000 postcards and a green reputation. Each participant can propose up to 3 layouts. A panel of industry veterans, designers, advertising executives (whose names are still not revealed by that time) will choose 10 finalists who will get their name displayed at the Print Responsibly blog and eventually a link to their online portfolio.
Only 3 top finalists will remain after the second selection round. And the very lucky winner will be awarding 1,000 postcards of her or his design. The submission deadline has been set to February 14th, 2006. Good luck.
