If you believed that walking with sandals might save the planet because surfers wear them, you might be wrong. Sandals are like the other shoes, they’re getting worn when used regularly. But as wearing sandals could be considered as cool, there’s slightly a chance to showcase some intelligent products to shoemakers.
Here’s an example: EcoSandal, a shoe prototype made by California-based LifeStyle Design for the count of Reef, a classic and popular brand among in surfer communities. Its specificities? Only green materials. The shoe sole is made from pure EVA rubber, the chassis, shaped in natural leather.
But the true originality remains in its tying system. Parts of the EcoSandal are stacked to each other with no glue, with just one screw that even doesn’t look like one. With the shoe becoming a green material sandwich, you can untie the assemblage to change only what had worn during the age. Usually, the underground layer, if you used to walk a lot.
And for die-hard fashionable people, the yellow middle tier of the sandal could be replaced with another one, in your favorite color. They called that… custom-ization.
