Have you ever wanted to sit on this nicely designed cork chair? Well, it’s 10cm-high. But midget chair did grab the first prize of the last Design Within Reach (DWR) Holiday Champagne Chair Contest.
Back in time. Severals year ago, Rob Forbes (see his short bio here) received a miniature chair made out of a champagne cork’s wire cage and metal medallion. Many congratulations. “How sweet” “Nice piece of furniture, Rob.” Enough. Forbes has got a new idea: setting a design contest for cork chair, which by the times, has matured into a very popular competition and found more and more audience both in the United States and abroad. It is usually opened to every one from professional designers to students and takes during the winter break ― when, you got it, champagne is not so rare.
Minimalistic. Participants at the Champagne Chair Contest cannot use more than two bottles. Every adhesive is prohibited except glue, including tape and also additional material such as paint. Every submitted chair will be judge on the craftsmanship, creativity, ingeniousness and durability.
If you love this chair ― which reminds me an traditional African chair ―, maybe you will rave on these human-size “Cork Family” chairs. Jasper Morrison from Vitra Design created them with natural material cork.
