CocolicoEach day, one green design.

Among alternative ways to generate electricity, we love this tiny generator outlet designed by Potenco. It’s working like a Yo-Yo, or a crank, letting users produce energy by simply pulling a cord. It’s so simple and efficient that it has been picked by the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) team to be the generator of their low-cost laptop dedicated to children of developing countries.

For one minute of exercise, the generator outputs electric power for up to several hours, and can feed mobile phones, PDAs, lighting products, digital cameras, etc. The Potenco generator is said to deliver five times more power than regular cranks, and can be pulled five times longer before the user senses fatigue.

Potenco has been founded by Colin Bulthaup, recognized by MIT Technology Review Magazine as one of the top innovators under the age of 35, and also behind Instructables.com, the DIY community web site.
