‘No need to find the best materials to shape the best chairs’ could be Bike Furniture Design’s motto. The company founded by Andy Gregg in the 90s has refined the reused design so great it doesn’t seem at all those bike parts had another function that being part of a chair.
Since the start, the company has extended its range of reused materials. For examples, it now includes train and automobile windows for tabletops, and surplus automotive seat-belt webbing for seating upholstery.
What we like with this form of design is it looks like open source softwares. Just like the ScrapHouse in San Fransisco, it doesn’t matter who made the materials, it does matter to keep imagining how and what we can retake from existing products.
