French designers ModeLabs made their name for practicing the on-demand cellphones, a concept close to modular homes or modular offices. Customers can custom their handhelds with their wishes and pay more or less. ModeLabs now is also known for those three self-sustainable cellphone concepts.
All the concepts rely on the inherent movement of their users to automatically regenerate power and signal the possibility of using smaller batteries or even eliminating them entirely. The most advanced model is the YoYo, ModeLabs says. Worn about the neck, the prototype recycles the bounces and swings created by its owner and also draws power from built-in solar cells.
So it’s not surprising yet great that German watch maker Tag Heuer partnered the agency for a new cellphone. Even though the teams have just started working together, the YoYo phone might end up in a watch.
