Usually, it works like this: A new hi-tech product needs a new package made of new materials. Question: Why does it have to be this way? Answer: Because we haven’t been used to seeing the capability of natural materials and so, haven’t realized all their potentials.
Ecoasu Umajimura and industrial designer Takumi Shimamura collaborate on bags, suitcases, tables or chairs made of thinned Japanese cheddar cedar wood. The results are well-shaped enough to seduce the “iPod-Ikea generation”, and on top of that, they are shock resistant, lower impact appliances and accessories.
The collaboration was crowned by a Good Design Awards last year. Not too much for a great work. Bags and suitcases could be bough on their Monacca online store.
