At the Salone de Mobile (Mobility exhibition) in Milan, there are many gorgeous and smart innovations. This bike stood out of the crowd. It stood out so well, that someone stole it during the exhibition time, according to Core77.
Was a bikemaniac urging to try it? Was it part of an very alternative marketing campaign? Anyway, we found the concept so simple and efficient enough to disturb the bike industry.
The business model of IKEA inspired the design. Basten Leijh conceived its “Sandwich Bike”, or Hamburger bike (our contribution), thinking about how still expensive it takes to manufacture a bike and how a smarter form could slash its production cost. So, the bike will send to your home by postmail, in a box, dismantled, ready for you to assemble it.
But don’t worry, the bike is full of simple yet efficient ideas. It’s made of two customizable wooden layers, fixed to each other by some screws. No welding joints, only a crank. No sweat. No swear.
There are some other products nicely design that are showed on the Leijh’s minimalist website. Tell us what you like the most.
