It’s not the most original design for a washing machine but its uniqueness lays inside, under the hood. Sanyo announced its Aqua AWD-AQ1 drum-style washing machine which features this ‘Air Wash’ function: converting air to ozone, to clean your dirty pants without wasting water.
The ozone is said to better eliminate bacteria and odor from clothing due to its high power of oxidation, Sanyo said (in Japanese). At the end of the washing cycle, it goes straight into the atmosphere. (No details have been said about its noxious effects on human organism.)
Among the different washing cycles, we were very pleased to find the “Zero Detergent course“. Washing water is kept cleaned by the internal recycling process and could be used on and on during 2 days. Fair enough if you need fresh clothes every morning, but quite useless when we used to do it once a week. A possible reason for this is that the Sanyo Aqua AWD-AQ1 was developed for industrial needs before its launch on the household appliance market.
Sanyo’s Aqua should be available for consumers oÂn mid-March for about 262,500 yen (1,850 euros).
