Design has just one inherent mission. Create useful products to enhance our daily lifes. (The aesthetic part is a secondary one, Don Norman would tell you it better than us.) So do those standing wheelchairs comply to this dogma.
In essence, the concept design looks like a modified Segway that doesn’t show any accelerating stick. Paraplegic people stand upright on it, don’t look anymore as if they were constantly begging for some assistance ― and most probably could run faster than you can. Giving the fact that conventional Segways are affordable for the mass, by scale economy, those truly brilliant piece of engineering should be a lot more affordable than big electrical power traditional wheelchairs. Or if you do feel like a DIY genius, just like this guy, you could change the world.
