CocolicoEach day, one green design.

It’s a bet, a fantastic bet, but boy, if this could go to completion, sailing without a drop of diesel might emerge as the transportation in vogue.

The nonprofit organization Transatlantic21 is about to launch a catamaran called Sun21, equipped with solar panels that aims to cross the Atlantic ocean by producing its own energy. A premiere in the sailing history.

What does it look? 14-meter long, averaging 5-6 knots by normal weather conditions (night and day), and able to welcome a five to six people crew.

“The voyage will start in October 2006 with the official naming of the boat in Basel and a promotion tour along the river Rhine to Antwerp, from where sun21 will be shipped to southern Spain,” according to Transatlantic 21. “The actual record journey across the Atlantic will begin in December in Seville.”

“The journey will proceed via the Canary Islands and Cape Verde to the West Indies and then on to Florida. The boat will continue its journey along the US coast to New York, where sun21 is due to arrive in spring 2007, having covered about 7000 sea miles.”

I want to find out more about the items on your site[particularily the catamaran] but I can’t navigate to any details. Sexy web site but a little on the useless side.

Sorry to hear that, William. And sorry again to tell you: Yes, you’re totally right, Cocolico still needs some fixes and enhancements. It’s a beta, which isn’t a big reason to hide behind but we’re keeping working on its code.

For the catamaran, did you go on their website. There’s a link inside the post.

Note. Please keep your comments on-topic. Offensive comments, off-topic ramblings, and flames will be wiped away. Basic HTML (strong, em, a, etc.) is allowed in your comments. Especially if you wish to drop a link.
