Offering a toolkit to two-wheelers to sweeten their ride is a smart way to bring more people to use their bicycles. In addition, like the Yellow chair project, this could foster social interaction between neighbors.
So this bike stand with airpump makes a lot of sense.
The bike stand, developed by Jeroen Bruls and Krijn Christiaansen for the need of Ypenburg, a newly build neighborhood in the Netherlands, consists of a basic polished stainless steel hurdle which contains a manual airpump, in stainless steel too, so bright that “it shines like a jewel on the gray pavement”.
To us, the concept is cool but might be enhanced a bit. Two suggestions: For example, the airpump should be bendable to facilitate the pumping work. Or there could be an airtank to store unused air pumped. Some people would pump to let other use the air; that would increase social interaction.
